Driving excellence in project adminstration

Mary Irema is a seasoned Senior Administrative Officer with a wealth of experience spanning over fifteen years across diverse projects. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of thematic areas, including Intervention and Clinical Trials, Health System Impact Evaluation, and Policy Delivery. Holding a Master’s Degree in Project Management, Mary has honed her skills through hands-on experience, from project planning to implementation and dissemination.

Officially joining Ifakara Health Institute in October 2010 as a Unit Administrator, Mary initially focused on prominent projects such as NEOVITA and SPD. Within the SPD project, she managed two significant arms: SAVVY, a community-based study, and FBIS, a Facility-Based Study. Her involvement in these initiatives provided invaluable insights into project management, prompting her pursuit of a Master’s degree in the field and subsequent promotion to a Senior Thematic Group Administrator.

Mary's administrative acumen traces back to her undergraduate studies at Kampala International University, where she cultivated a strong foundation. Complementing her academic journey, she holds a Master's Degree in Project Management from the Open University of Tanzania.

Her career journey began in 1998 at Millicom International (Tigo), where she served as a Customer Service Supervisor for over a decade, demonstrating leadership and organizational skills. Transitioning to Ifakara Health Institute in 2010, Mary immersed herself in various projects under Health System and Impact Evaluation. Her roles extended beyond administrative tasks to encompass field visits, supervision, data verification, and report writing, contributing significantly to the dissemination of study findings.

Beyond her current role as a Unit Senior Administrator, Mary's passion lies in Mother and Child Nutrition Health. Holding a Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition, she remains committed to advancing her career in nutrition by actively participating in various nutrition studies at the Institute. Mary's multifaceted expertise and dedication underscore her invaluable contributions to the field of project management and health administration.
