Senior Laboratory Scientist currently working under the Shinda Malaria project.

Alfred Boniphace Lazaro is a Senior Laboratory Scientist currently working under the Shinda Malaria project. His role involves supporting the project by conducting molecular analysis of dried blood spots (DBS) samples. This includes speciation of malaria parasites, differentiation between recrudescence and re-infection, and screening for antimalarial drug resistance.

He earned his MSc in Medical Microbiology with Distinction from the University of Manchester, UK, in 2022, and a BSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with First Class Honors from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Alfred has extensive experience in various roles related to microbiological and molecular investigations. He served as a Research Officer at IHI from September 2016 to September 2021, working on projects related to water, sanitation, hygiene, malaria, and malaria vectors. 

Alfred possesses a diverse set of laboratory skills, including molecular analysis of clinical, biological, and environmental samples, next-generation sequencing activities, cloning, transformation, biochemistry analysis, immunological assays, clinical microbiological analysis, and more.
