The Laboratory Assistant will support day-to-day insectary and laboratory activities, including maintaining insectary facilities and equipment.
Position Summary
Ifakara Health Institute, through the PfVIMT Project, is seeking a qualified Laboratory Assistant to support the implementation and daily operation of insectary studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards at the Bagamoyo Branch.
The Laboratory Assistant will support day-to-day insectary and laboratory activities, including maintaining insectary facilities and equipment, rearing and maintaining mosquito colonies, and preparing mosquito specimens for experimental procedures in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role also involves feeding adult mosquitoes using human arm or membrane feeding techniques and conducting mosquito dissections as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold a Certificate in Laboratory Sciences or a related field with understanding of GLP standards and laboratory safety procedures.
Candidates should demonstrate experience in mosquito rearing, mosquito dissection, feeding assay techniques, and conducting entomological fieldwork. GLP training and awareness will be an added advantage.
