On the second day of the annual Nane Nane exhibition, Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Adam Malima, visited the Ifakara Health Institute booth at the Ifakara Town Council pavilion, commending the institute’s enduring contributions to health research and innovation in Tanzania.

During the visit, Malima praised Ifakara’s groundbreaking work—particularly in malaria control—which he noted has contributed to a significant reduction in cases, especially in regions such as Ifakara and Bagamoyo. “Your contributions have proven valuable, as evidenced by the declining malaria burden in the country,” he remarked.

The Regional Commissioner engaged with Ifakara scientists and clinicians, who showcased a range of innovations, from advanced diagnostic tools to community-driven disease control strategies. These displays, part of Ifakara’s daily programming at the exhibition, reflect the institute’s mission to translate scientific research into practical health solutions for Tanzanians.

Showcasing Science at the Heart of Agriculture and Health

This year’s Nane Nane, themed “Visionary Leadership for a Resilient Future: Advancing Sustainability of Agricultural Ecosystems,” is taking place from August 1–9 at the Julius Nyerere Grounds in Morogoro. The event brings together farmers, researchers, government agencies, private sector players, and development partners to share innovations, promote sustainability, and strengthen cross-sector collaboration.

For several years, Ifakara has been a consistent exhibitor, using the platform to demonstrate how public health and agriculture intersect. Led this year by Faraji Abilahi, Community Engagement Coordinator, the Ifakara team is offering free health screenings—including malaria testing, HIV counseling, and hypertension checks—while engaging visitors with interactive displays from key programs such as the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara (CDCI), Heart and Lung Clinic, Laboratory unit, and the Environmental Health and Ecological Science (EHES) department.

Commitment to a Healthier Tanzania

Ifakara’s presence at Nane Nane reflects its steadfast commitment to improving health and well-being through research, training, and service. The recognition from the Morogoro RC not only reaffirms the institute’s impact but also underscores the vital role research institutions play in advancing national health goals through science, innovation, and community partnerships
