TRAINING: Ifakara conducts workshop on data analysis to sharpen research capacity

Ifakara Health Institute recently held a hands-on workshop on Data Analysis Using Stata from June 16 to 21, 2025, at its Bagamoyo branch as part of the WHO-TDR fellowship re-integration program. This training workshop was funded by the WHO-TDR Clinical Research Leadership Fellowship Program and coordinated by Ummi Kibondo, Ifakara Research Scientist and WHO-TDR Fellow (2024/2025).
This training aimed to strengthen local researchers’ skills in statistical analysis, data preparation, visualization, and interpretation to enable them to effectively answer their research questions and produce tangible outputs.
Limited to 16 participants for personalized engagement, the workshop combined 25% interactive lectures with 75% practical sessions covering key topics such as biostatistics principles, data cleaning, regression models, survival analysis, sample size calculations, and drafting statistical methods for manuscripts.
The workshop was facilitated by experienced trainers Ali Ali, Ummi Kibondo, Ramadhan Abdul, Leguma Bakari, and Fatuma Issa Mkwepu.
This initiative is expected to enhance data analysis and interpretation skills among researchers at Ifakara Health Institute, fostering improved collaboration with biostatisticians and increasing research efficiency. Ultimately, it will contribute to more rigorous study designs, better data collection, and timely generation of evidence to support health interventions across the region.
