FORUM: Ifakara presents at conference to end extreme poverty

Ifakara Health Institute was proud to take part in conversation on ending extreme poverty at the DEEP International Conference on Poverty Evidence, held from 11–13 June 2025 in Arusha, Tanzania. The conference was hosted by Data & Evidence to End Extreme Poverty (DEEP), an initiative under Oxford Policy Management (OPM) that seeks to end extreme poverty through data-driven solutions.
Graced by the Guest of Honor, His Excellency Former President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the three-day conference convened leaders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to exchange insights and evidence aimed at tackling extreme poverty more effectively.
Ifakara senior research scientist and health economist, Dr. Peter Binyaruka presented on June 12 during a session featuring research funded by the DEEP Grand Challenge Fund. As Principal Investigator of Ifakara’s DEEP-supported project, Dr. Binyaruka shared insights on the geographical and financial barriers to healthcare for people living in poverty—showing how lack of access to health services not only worsens ill-health but also contributes to the cycle of poverty.
