On June 13, 2025, Ifakara Health Institute hosted a vital preparatory workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as part of the “Countdown to 2030: Strengthening Global and Country Analytic Capacity” project. This two-year initiative aims to track progress in life-saving interventions for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and Nutrition (RMNCH+N) across multiple countries.

The workshop gathered key stakeholders, including government officials well-versed in National Maternal Health (NMH) indicators, to deepen the understanding of Tanzania’s data ahead of a larger multicountry analytical workshop scheduled for June 16-20, 2025, in Nairobi.

During the day-long session, participants reviewed the latest data primarily drawn from Tanzania’s DHIS2 routine health information system. They explored innovative data analysis methods and tools designed to strengthen the 2025 Countdown to 2030 analysis. Building on the successes and lessons from the 2024 meeting, the workshop ensured Tanzania’s progress in RMNCH+N interventions is accurately tracked and reported.

Ifakara Health Institute looks forward to continued collaboration at the Nairobi workshop, where multi-country analyses will provide valuable insights to inform policies and programs critical for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Countdown to 2030 2025 Country Annual Meeting

This preparatory workshop was closely connected to the larger Countdown to 2030 2025 Country Annual Meeting, where final results from the competitive fellowship program were presented. A standout moment was the presentation by Jacqueline Minja, a young research scientist specializing in statistics at Ifakara Health Institute. Jacqueline is among 10 recipients of the prestigious Countdown 2030 Fellowship Program for 2024, exemplifying the initiative’s commitment to building local analytic capacity and contributing vital insights to the global RMNCH+N agenda.

The Countdown to 2030 initiative unites a broad coalition of partners, including Ministry of Health officials from 34 countries, statisticians worldwide, and representatives from organizations such as the Global Financing Facility (GFF), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, West African Health Organization (WAHO), the Gates Foundation, African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), and academic institutions including the University of Manitoba, Johns Hopkins University, University of Pelotas, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and University of Southampton.
