FORUM: Ifakara at the 5th Cochrane Africa Indaba in Nairobi

The 5th Cochrane Africa Indaba is currently underway in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 14–15, 2025, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the continent to advance evidence-informed health decision-making. Dr. Getrud Mollel is representing the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) at this important regional forum, which focuses on evidence synthesis, translating research into practice, and strengthening the use of scientific knowledge in policy and health systems.
Organized by Cochrane Kenya under the theme “Advancing Evidence Synthesis for Health Decision-Making in Africa: Promoting Health Equity and Access,” the Indaba offers a dynamic program featuring plenary sessions, interactive workshops, panel discussions, poster presentations, and networking opportunities. Discussions this year are organized around three subthemes: strengthening the evidence–policy nexus; enhancing capacity for evidence synthesis and informed decision-making; and embracing innovation in evidence synthesis.
By taking part in this forum, IHI continues to reinforce its commitment to regional collaboration and capacity building, particularly in the use of locally generated research to inform policy and practice. This engagement supports IHI’s core mandate to develop, generate, and apply scientific evidence to improve public health and well-being in Tanzania and other low- and middle-income countries.
