SYMPOSIUM: Unlocking immunological clues to brain health

In celebration of the Day of Immunology, the Tanzania Immunology Society (TIS) will host a special symposium that aims to raise awareness and foster dialogue on the critical role of immunology in health and disease. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM EAT.
Held under the compelling theme, “Brain and Immunity – Immunological Insights into Neurological Disorders,” the symposium will spotlight how immune responses impact brain health and contribute to neurological conditions. The event will bring together leading experts from across Tanzania and the globe to share their knowledge and engage with participants through insightful discussions and interactive sessions.
Esteemed speakers for the event include, Jacob Lema, Research Scientist at the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Dr. Josephine Mapunda, Lecturer at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) and Postdoctoral Associate at the Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota and Marieke CJ Dekker, Consultant Neurologist at the KCMC Hospital.
This symposium is open to students, researchers, medical professionals, and anyone with a keen interest in immunology and neuroscience. It offers a unique opportunity to network, learn, and participate in important conversations that bridge the fields of immunology and neurology.
