FORUM:  Ifakara engages partners at MUHAS scientific conference in Dar

Ifakara Health Institute participated in the 10th Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) scientific conference which was held recently at the Muhimbili campus in Upanga, Dar es Salaam.

The event marked a decade of MUHAS scientific conferences with this year’s conference having the theme: “The Role of the Health Systems Research in Promoting and Sustaining Universal Health Coverage; Leveraging Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Ifakara was represented by Dr. Sally Mtenga, the Head of Health System Impact Evaluation and Policy Department at the institute. Dr. Sally was also among the presenters during the conference which took place from July 14 to 15, 2022.

Her presentation, titled “Coping with the challenges of managing diabetes type 2 during COVID-19 in Tanzania and Kenya: implication for enhancing social protection schemes for people with chronic illnesses,” was one of many given during the satellite session held on the first day of the conference.

Also, in attendance was the Chief Medical Officer of Tanzania, Dr. Aifello Sichwale, who was the guest of honor along with the Centre Director and Chief Research Scientist of NIMR, Prof Sayoki Mfinanga, the event keynote speaker.

The event brought together academics, researchers, scholars, development partners, policymakers, and stakeholders representing the public and private sectors of health, education, research, development, and innovation ecosystem.
