The Product Development Partnership (PDP) forum of the Ifakara Health Institute on June 10,2022 hosted a day-long innovation symposium on medical devices and healthcare technologies. The event was held at the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH).

This year’s symposium was tbe second conference after a similar event was held last year. It featured interactive discussions, case study presentations and keynote lectures by eminent personalities from around policies, regulations and product designing and development.

the PDP forum aims to create a broad pipeline of innovators and entrepreneurs to invent affordable technologies and use the design studios and makerspaces currently existing in the partner network. Presently, the founding partners of the Product Development Partnership consortium are: Ifakara Health Institute, Bongo Tech and Research Lab, and Robotech Lab. Others are: Villgro Africa from Kenya and the Essential Tech Centre of EPFL from Switzerland.

More: About PDP
Ifakara Health Institute through the Innovation Hub partnered with Fondation Botnar and Swiss Embassy through Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to establish the virtual center for product development well known as PDP (Product Development Partnership) that focuses on the health sector in Tanzania.

The goal of this partnership forum is to support makerspaces, innovators and the Tanzania innovation ecosystems to enhance local capability to develop new innovative local products that will address community problems.

This collaboration is based on the fact that Tanzania's capability to innovate its own products up to the commercialization stage is still a challenge. Thus, there is a need to have innovation platforms that will specifically facilitate multiple stakeholders’ interactions, knowledge exchange, identify gaps and policy issues, etc, around the medical and healthcare sector.
