Ifakara Health Institute’s simulation-based power analysis R package ‘simpowa’, developed in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, is now published and available on CRAN.

simpowa enables power analysis and sample size calculation for semi-field vector control trials (SFEs), supporting both short- and long-term studies of single or combined interventions. Using simulations from generalized linear mixed-effects models (GLMMs), the package accounts for variability across multiple sources of random variation, helping researchers design robust and adequately-powered SFEs.

Getting Started:
Access it here: CRAN Package simpowa. The package can be easily installed and used in RStudio. All functions start with “sim.”, and each comes with examples to help you get started. For example, once a package is installed, typing ?sim.power.shortsfe.sinint in RStudio displays details about that function and allows you to run an example directly. Full function descriptions are available in the manual: simpowa.pdf.

There are plans to organise an information session soon. Meanwhile, any questions can be directed to Andrea Kipingu - akipingu@ihi.or.tz

We encourage researchers to explore and apply this package in their research.
