Today, on International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, the Ifakara Health Institute proudly acknowledges and celebrates the remarkable contributions of our women—leaders, innovators, researchers, and changemakers—whose dedication continues to inspire positive change in health, science, and the communities we serve.

This year, the national IWD theme — “Rights and Equality for Women and Girls: An Inclusive Foundation Towards Vision 2050” — resonates deeply with our mission. It reminds us that sustainable progress is rooted in inclusion, empowerment, and equality.
#IFAKARAWOMEN@70: A Week of Celebration

To mark this special day, we launched our week-long campaign, #IFAKARAWOMEN@70, highlighting the voices, achievements, and stories of women across the institute. From groundbreaking publications to frontline fieldwork, our women continue to shape science and policy in Tanzania and beyond.

Some highlights from our campaign:

Why IWD Matters

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a call to action—urging governments, institutions, and communities to accelerate gender equality and ensure that women and girls can thrive without barriers. Around the world, people come together to honor women’s achievements and advocate for equal opportunities.

At Ifakara, we see daily how women lead, inspire, and innovate. From laboratories to community outreach, their contributions are shaping a healthier, more equitable future for all.

On this IWD 2026, we celebrate every woman in Ifakara and beyond—your leadership, creativity, and resilience make all the difference.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026!
