On International Women’s Day 2026, the Ifakara Health Institute proudly acknowledged and celebrated the remarkable contributions of its women—leaders, innovators, researchers, and changemakers—whose dedication continues to inspire positive change in health, science, and the communities we serve.
This year’s national theme, “Rights and Equality for Women and Girls: An Inclusive Foundation Towards Vision 2050,” resonated deeply with the Institute’s mission, reinforcing the understanding that sustainable progress is rooted in inclusion, empowerment, and equality.
To mark the occasion, Ifakara launched a week-long campaign, #IFAKARAWOMEN@70, highlighting the voices, achievements, and stories of women across the Institute. From groundbreaking publications to impactful frontline fieldwork, Ifakara’s women continued to shape science and policy in Tanzania and beyond.

International Women’s Day remains a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also serving as a call to action. It urges governments, institutions, and communities to accelerate progress toward gender equality and ensure that women and girls can thrive without barriers.
At Ifakara, this commitment is evident every day. Across laboratories, field sites, and community engagements, women continue to lead, inspire, and innovate—shaping a healthier and more equitable future for all.
