FORUM: Deputy Finance minister Masauni joins Ifakara, partners at “Data Tamasha” 2021
Tanzania’s Deputy Finance Minister Hamad Yussuf Masauni today joined Ifakara Health Institute and partners organizing this year’s Data Tamasha event at the University of Dar es Salaam’s College of Information and Communication Technology in the city. Masauni officially opened the forum.
High profile dignitaries who attended the official opening of this year’s Data Tamasha include Edward Anderson, the World Bank ICT specialist. Anderson has 15 years' experience focused on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.
In his remarks to officially open the event, Masauni said “the main goal of the Data Tamasha is very important for the Tanzania government because right now the country is implementing the 5-year national development plan 2021/2022 – 2024/2025 that aims to build industrial economy using the advanced technology to reach 8-10 percent.”
Ifakara’s Mathematical Modelling and Data Science Capacity Project, led by Dr. Samson Kiware, takes part in the Data Tamasha 2021. The three-day event scheduled to end on the 8th of December 2021. Themed “Unboxing Data for the Digital Economy,” the event brings together data experts from all over the world to explore the role of data in decision-making. This Data Tamasha is the third event after the first and the second were organized 2017 and 2019.
In addition to sponsoring organization of the forum, Ifakara has pitched an exhibition booth to showcase Ifakara-based surveillance systems that support malaria surveillance in Tanzania and how real-time data is reported.
Also, Ifakara will later on join a panel discussion where Dr. Samson Kiwale and his Ifakara colleague, Dr. Isaac Lyatuu, will share their insights on data science applications in health care.
