STUDY TOUR: Connecting classrooms with the real-world
On March 5, 2024, the Ifakara Health Institute welcomed health science students from the University of Dar es Salaam for a study tour of its Bagamoyo research facilities at Kingani. The tour aimed to connect students with scientists and show them real-world applications of their academic studies.
The students, specializing in Applied Microbiology and Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Microbiology, visited the Vector Control and Product Testing Unit, the clinical trials facility, and the institute’s laboratories during the tour.
Reflecting on their experience, one student, Godfrey Mafulu, expressed newfound insights into malaria control efforts. "We had the chance to learn how malaria can be controlled in the community, which we had no idea about. We also witnessed its impact, particularly in reducing deaths among pregnant women and children," shared Mafulu.
The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to engage with experts in the field, ask questions, and gain real-world knowledge that will complement their academic journey.
