TRAINING: Strengthening health quality improvement capacity across Dar facilities
The Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), through the NEST360 initiative, conducted a three-day Quality Improvement (QI) training from 7 to 9 October 2026 in Dar es Salaam, bringing together multidisciplinary teams from five Phase 2 NEST360-supported health facilities.
Held at Ngome Holding Hall in Sinza Africasana, the training aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity to plan and implement facility-based Quality Improvement initiatives aligned with Tanzania’s National Quality Improvement Framework.
The training brought together approximately 35 participants, including health workers, biomedical engineers (BMEs), Health Management Information System (HMIS) personnel, Quality Improvement Team (QIT) members and hospital management representatives.
Participating facilities were Yombo Health Centre, Kivule District Hospital, Mabwepande District Hospital, Kigamboni District Hospital and Ubungo District Hospital.
By bringing together professionals from different disciplines, the training provided an opportunity to strengthen shared understanding of Quality Improvement and its application within healthcare facilities. It also reinforced the importance of coordinated efforts among clinical teams, technical personnel, information management staff and hospital leadership in identifying service delivery gaps and implementing improvement initiatives.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts to build the capacity of health facilities to apply structured, evidence-informed approaches to improving the quality of care.
Through NEST360, IHI continues to support efforts to strengthen health systems and improve care for newborns and children in Tanzania.
