The Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), through its Climate Change, Health & Policy initiatives, convened a two-day stakeholder consultative workshop from 22–23 September 2026 in Morogoro, bringing together key actors working at the intersection of climate change, health and policy in Tanzania and eastern Africa.

The workshop brought together representatives from government, academic and research institutions, health organizations, policymakers, development partners and civil society to share perspectives and experiences on climate-related health risks and explore opportunities to strengthen collaboration.

Bringing climate change, health and policy perspectives together

The two-day meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the evolving relationship between climate and health and the importance of strengthening connections between research, policy and practice.

Participants engaged in discussions on climate-health challenges, research and policy priorities, early-warning systems, health-system preparedness, community engagement, equity and vulnerable populations, as well as capacity strengthening.

Identifying priorities for the future

The workshop also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the development of a shared vision and strategic direction for collaborative climate and health work in Eastern Africa.

Through the consultative process, participants shared their experiences, identified areas requiring greater attention and provided recommendations to help ensure that future climate-health efforts are responsive to the needs of communities, health systems and decision-makers.

Inputs from the consultation will help strengthen evidence-informed approaches to climate and health, supporting efforts to better understand and respond to the health impacts of a changing climate in Tanzania and across Eastern Africa.
