Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) joined researchers, public health experts, policymakers and partners from across Africa and beyond at the PAMCA Kenya Chapter Annual Meeting 2026, held in Nairobi from 1–3 September under the theme “Reconnect and reimagine mosquito control in Africa.”

The meeting officially opened with remarks from Dr. Elijah Juma, Program Manager at PAMCA, who welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of the meeting’s return following a one-year break. He also acknowledged partners and sponsors, including IHI, whose support contributed to making the 2026 meeting possible.

The three-day gathering brings together the Pan African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) community for scientific exchange, collaboration and discussions on strengthening mosquito control and addressing vector-borne diseases across Africa.

Ifakara contributes to the scientific programme

The day concluded with the symposium “The Stephensi Shift: Current Evidence, Knowledge Gaps and the Path to Elimination,” organised by Dr. Samson Kiware. The symposium brought together Drs. Eric Ochomo, Samson Kiware, Fitsuma Girma, Heather Fergason and Adedapo Adeogun to examine emerging evidence on Anopheles stephensi, identify critical knowledge gaps and discuss priorities for surveillance and control.

For IHI, PAMCA 2026 provided an important platform to showcase Tanzania’s research, honour the legacy of Dr. Chaki, strengthen scientific partnerships and contribute to collective efforts to advance mosquito control and vector-borne disease prevention across Africa.
