GRADUATION: 18 get their degrees under the Ifakara masters program
-

On 20 August 2026, 18 scholars obtained their degrees under the Ifakara Health Institute’s masters program. They were conferred with a Master of Science degree in Public Health Research (MScPHR) from the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha, Tanzania.

The scholars reached an important milestone in their academic and professional journeys, reflecting Ifakara’s continued commitment to strengthening capacity in public health research.

While Ifakara’s primary mission remains research, the development of human capacity within and beyond the Institute has always been highly valued and recognised as an essential component of innovation and institutional growth. Through strong investment in Master’s-level education and practical research training, IHI has become an important catalyst for developing high-level expertise in public health and research.

This commitment to capacity development extends beyond the Institute’s own scholars. A number of Ifakara’s senior scientists are affiliated with national and international centres of excellence, where they contribute to teaching, mentorship and knowledge sharing. Over the years, Ifakara has also hosted doctoral fellows who have drawn on the Institute’s research platforms, expertise and scientific environment to advance their studies.

The graduation of the MScPHR 18 scholars is more than an academic milestone. It reflects the importance of investing in the next generation of researchers and equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to generate evidence and contribute to addressing health challenges in Tanzania and across Africa.
