Description
Overall, malaria accounts for approximately 30% of Tanzania's national disease burden. To help alleviate the country's malaria burden, the Tanzanian government has focused its malaria control efforts in four areas: 1. the improvement of case management; 2. the improvement of malaria in pregnancy; 3. the promotion and use of insecticide treated nets; 4. the prevention and control of epidemics.
This anthropological study will use rapid ethnographic assessments and other qualitative methods to examine the social, cultural, and behavioral factors that facilitate or impede people's ability to seek and receive appropriate care for malaria, including issues related to the accessibility and adequacy of health services, the availability and affordability of antimalarials, and adherence to dosing regimes.
