Severe malaria represents a medical emergency because of its higher case fatality rate. Following a successful implementation of the severed disease in children (SDC) package in 2008/2009, the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) will use this experient to generate a concensus, assist in development of new policy and assess the model for scalin-up the use of new, safe and effective medicins for management of severe malaria in Tanzania.
