The Kilombero and Ulanga Antiretroviral Cohort
(KIULARCO) at Care and Treatment Clinic (CTC) of Saint Francis Designated
District Hospital in Ifakara. Also known as the Chronic Disease Clinic of
Ifakara (CDCI).

Description
The main objectives of this project include the following;
1. Educational curriculum concerning HIV/AIDS
for COs, AMOs and Intern Doctors covering the topics of Epidemiology,
Transmission Risks, Diagnosis of HIV, Clinical Presentation, Therapy of HIV and
Opportunistic Infections - continuous specific and on-the-job training of staff
members of CDCI of SFDDH and AMO students of TTCIH.
2. Strengthening the human resources and the
VCT services.
3. Tightening the link of the TB and HIV/AIDS
program with the aim of testing all TB-infected patients for HIV and
facilitating the follow-up of treatment and care of these patients.
4. Strengthening the collaboration with the
Pediatric Department and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as agreed
upon with the respective heads of department and strengthening the enrolement
of pediatric PLWHAs.
5. List patients “lost to follow-up” to NACP
and track patients with the help of HBC in order to investigate reason of lost
to follow-up status or to reintegrate them into NACP.
6. Continuous high-quality data collection for
the KIULARCO study and having a first data evaluation at the end of June 2009
looking at the clinical and immunological outcome of PLWHAs enrolled in the
NACP at SFDDH.
