Epilepsy is a major health problem both in the developed and developing 

countries. In 1997, the Global Campaign Against Epilepsy was launched to raise political and public awareness of epilepsy, reduce stigma and misunderstanding, and improve education and delivery of services especially in the developing world. However despite this initiative, there remains a considerable lack of knowledge about epilepsy, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
