Full Title Can effective anthelminthic treatment delay the progression of HIV?

 Short Title

 Project Leader Cornelia Staehelin

Description Based on considerations from immunological theories and in vitro as well as animal models, there is sufficient reason to suspect that helminth co-infection has a detrimental effect on the host’s ability to contain HIV.

Hence, we hypothesize that presumptive treatment against helminthic infections will lead to an improvement of HIV control. This in turn will prolong the chronic phase of HIV infection and will thus defer the need for anti-retro-viral treatment.
