A community-based study to assess the impact of Coartem® (artemether/lumefantrine) when used as national policy first-line treatment on malaria morbidity and mortality in Tanzania.
The primary objective of the ALIVE project is to assess the impact of the introduction of Coartem® on all-cause mortality in infants/children ≥ 3 months [and > 5 kg] and < 5 years of age in a rural area of southern Tanzania (Kilombero and Ulanga) in comparison with historical data when SP was used.
Additionally, the goal of this project is to undertake community assessment of morbidity and all cause mortality rates in the IDSS after the introduction of ACT for first line antimalarial policy.
