Research has hugely contributed to the development of
generalisable knowledge. Subjects who participate in health
researches to test new diagnostic procedures, drugs, vaccines
and devices are the means to securing such knowledge for health
improvement. By placing some people at risks of harm for the good
of others, research has the potential for exploitation of human
subjects. The art of ethics is to minimise the possibility of exploitation
and research fatigue by ensuring that research subjects are not merely
used but are treated with full respect and dignity while contributing to
the health improvement of mankind.
The IHI-IRB is an independent body with its own mandate when it comes
to research ethics operational issues. The ultimate goal of the IRB is to
ensure that dignity, rights, safety and well being for research participants
are promoted and protected, and the results of the investigators are credible
and accurate.
Vision
To become a role model for ethics protection and advocacy, in biomedical research involving human subjects as per national and international standards
Mission
To guide the IRB and investigators in the process of evaluating and deciding on the ethical merits of research
