Ifakara The Ifakara Branch is the registered office of Ifakara Health Institute. It was also the first place in which the organisation was established in the 1950s. Ifakara town lies in the Kilombero valley, close to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, some 7 hours' drive from Dar es Salaam. The offices are located next to the Saint Francis District-Designated Hospital.
Major research infrastructure operating at the Ifakara branch includes the Ifakara Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS), entomological research infrastructure (insectory, screen house) and laboratories.
Total staff strength of the Ifakara branch is 309, led by Dr. Issa Lyimo (Branch leader).
